Tikal is a sacred place. It is one of the largest archeological sites and urban centers of the pre-Colombian Maya civilization. It has a sense of age - almost like it was stuck in time. The pictures don’t do it justice - it is the feeling of being there and listening to the birds, and monkeys, the trees moving with the wind - that really captivate what it’s like being there in Tikal.
Many have said it’s haunted, or mysterious - but for me, Tikal was something else. It was an opportunity to venture into the unknown (we had a guide of course). Being there made me feel connected.
