Copenhagen, Denmark
My first solo international trip - Denmark and Sweden (pictured in another tab under “Media Collections”. All the pictures on this trip were taken on my Sony A6300 with the lens that comes with it, the 16-50 mm.
Lets talk a bit about taking a solo trip, whether its domestic or international. It is terrifying. Well, at first. At this point I’ve traveled to many places all over the world, but I was at least with one other person or I was meeting family or friends in the country I was going to. But in Denmark? I was alone. I had to plan everything alone, get everywhere alone - and it really was overwhelming at first. But then I realized, I’m on no one’s time except mine, and I am lucky to be able to muster up the courage to be here by myself. Also, the fear will always be there. It is just about what we do with the fear and how much of our lives we let it control.
Additionally, Danish people are very friendly. The people were willing to help out (for the most part). Things were pretty accessible and in English, which I was thankful for, considering I was alone while knowing the bare minimum words in Danish. With that, it is always advisable however, to learn some of the language words in the country you’re going to (it’s mainly a respect thing and can also make things easier for you).
Notes:
Everyone here rides bikes. Like everyone. There are lanes in the road for bikers. If you’re new to the country, please please don’t ride the bikes unless you have tons of experience riding one. Luckily for everybody, I don’t know how to ride a bike so this wasn’t an issue for me HAHA.
Buy groceries if you can and you’re trying to be on a budget! I only bought food out once on my trip, and the grocery store was around the corner of my Airbnb, so I was thankful.
Please PLEASE make sure you read all of the instructions before buying a train ticket. Public transport is very very accessible in all of Copenhagen, you just need to make sure you have the right ticket for where you want to go or you WILL get fined (I did). And no, they don’t care if this is the first time you are in their country.
This shot was taken at the Louisiana Art Museum, a short regional train ride away from Copenhagen. The museum is surrounded by a beach. Sept 2024.
